Tomi Laukkanen (born 1983) is a Finnish furniture and product designer. His career started as a cabinet maker which has given him a strong base for his design practice. In 2017 Tomi graduated from the Lahti Institute of Design (BA, Furniture Design). After graduating he moved to London and continued his studies in Royal College of Art (MA, Design Products) where he graduated in 2019. After the graduation he has worked as an interior designer for Terracycle and as a product designer at Studio Tord Boontje in London. In 2021 Tomi moved back to Finland and has been focusing on his own design studio ever since.
Tomi enjoys solving complex problems by conducting careful research. He considers sustainability in everything he does and has a passion for using the right technology and suitable materials. His work is characterised by creative concepts and detailed and finalised end products.
Over the years his work has covered many fields ranging from the design of small objects as furniture to architecture, interior and city planning, from craftsmanship to an industrial scale. In product design, his strengths lie in the ability to think of objects as parts of their architectural environment with the user and functionality in the centre.
