Nium is a furniture family made of aluminum sheet. Aluminum is the most recycled material in the world and doesn’t lose it’s properties during the recycling process. Recycling aluminum requires only 5% of the energy that is used to extract aluminum from the raw ore.
Nium is designed for the contract market and public spaces where furniture needs to be sturdy. Parts are fixed together with only a few screws so if some part of the stool or chair breaks it can be changed for a new one.
As all the pieces of the stool are cut from sheet material and as all of them are rectangular there is little waste left when pieces are cut and even the smallest amount of waste can be easily recycled. Pieces can be cut either by water jet or laser cutter.
The manufacturing process doesn’t need expensive moulds as thebends can be done with hydraulic pressbrake. This way even small batch manufacturing is possible.
